Mambo Marci’s love for music and dance started at a very early age … about 5 years old! Many years of ballet brought her to becoming a member of Rose Marie Floyd’s Contemporary Civic Ballet Company in Royal Oak, Michigan. As a teenager Marci attended and loved Interlochen International Music Camp for 3 summers, studying many art forms, with an emphasis on dance. She could be found on her free time practicing piano in the beautiful practice cabins at the camp, surrounded by lush trees and the wind whistling. She fell in love with Latin music (always a music aficionado of all genres) when she discovered it approximately 20 years ago. As soon as she found out there was a dance called “salsa” that could be done to express the salsa music, Marci was hooked before she even took her first class. An experience at Sangria Restaurant in Royal Oak really kicked in Marci’s education in salsa dancing. Although she had only one or two introductory classes, she immediately grabbed the nearest guy and entered a salsa dance competition in order to win a 20-class series at Elaine Marrero’s Troy Dance Studio. Thus the classes began… and haven’t stopped yet! Marci continues her education in Latin dance by attending out-of-town conventions, known as “Congresos de la Salsa”. She has been to Puerto Rico several times, Chicago, Miami and Toronto. It is at these congresses that she learns the latest moves from instructors and performers from all over the world. Marci has also competed locally in several salsa competitions, winning 2nd place and 3rd place trophies. She enjoys performing not only salsa, but as you will see on these website pages, she loves to perform with the Festival Dancers and The Island Guys tropical band, among others. Marci has performed and taught Latin dance at the following venues:
